Hello, I’m John Muscarnera. I provide individual therapy for adults seeking support with anxiety, depression, stress management, relationship challenges, and personal growth.
I believe every client holds the power to heal, even when if feels out of reach. With a background in ADHD, trauma recovery, domestic violence, and women's issues, I work alongside women and children to uncover their strength and build a new path forward. Clients can expect a warm, nonjudgmental space where their journey is respected and supported. Healing is possible, and you don't have to walk through it alone.
I am an LCSW who provides therapy to adolescents and adults. I focus on issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD/ADD, interpersonal relationships, time management, emotional regulation, and life transitions. I love working with teenagers and adults who want to explore their own being and are willing to flex and grow as we journey through life's challenges.
I have been providing therapeutic services to families, adults, adolescents, and children for the past 20 years.
As a health services professional, I use a trauma-informed and culturally aware approach to assessment, treatment planning, and interventions. My background providing behavioral health services in schools, psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, psychological services clinics, and outpatient mental health centers allows me to connect to clients with a variety of mental health needs.
I am a trauma-informed therapist with a master's degree in clinical mental health counseling with emphasis in military, veterans and their families. I help adults and teens navigate trauma, anxiety, relationship struggles, and major life transitions. I bring a background in advocacy, holistic modalities and decades of lived experience supporting individuals through crisis and change. I served in the US Navy, was International Flight Attendant and in worked the US government over the years, while earning my License.
I grew up on military bases and have African- Hawaiian ancestry and have a strong belief in Aloha and Ohana.
My approach is warm, direct, and grounded in evidence-based care. I specialize in:
I believe therapy should feel safe, honest, and empowering — a place to rebuild self-trust and create a life that feels aligned, healthy, and whole

Whether you're dealing with low self esteem, working toward personal growth, trying to improve life satisfaction, or want to talk to someone about underlying mental health issues, seeking therapy can be a great way to get support and guidance.
When finding a therapist, Pennsylvania can offer many options, but using a platform like Headway can make the process faster and more effective. When looking for in-person mental health services, you typically have to worry about insurance coverage and trying to find an available appointment slot that fits into your busy schedule. Although Headway does not accept health insurance plans, your therapy cost may be significantly more affordable than using an individual practice.
Headway has over 30,000 licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists, family therapists, marriage therapists, board-licensed professional counselors, and licensed clinical social workers. Most people are matched with a mental health professional within 48 hours, and you can switch who you're working with for free until you find the right therapist. Online sessions allow for flexible scheduling, making it a great alternative to individual practices in the city or college counseling centers for those who have busy class and work schedules to consider.
Whether you're looking for a specific type of therapy, like dialectical behavior therapy, commitment therapy, or sex therapy, or you're not sure where to begin, signing up for Headway can be a good step in the right direction.
